Know The Signs Of Prescription Drug Abuse – Substance Use Disorder (SUD)

Prescription opioid medications given by a doctor to relieve pain after serious injury or surgery can make people feel better. But they can also lead to becoming dependent on them.

Prescription opioid medications given by a doctor to relieve pain after serious injury or surgery can make people feel better. But they can also lead to becoming dependent on them. This happens when your brain changes and needs more of the drug for you to feel good. It can be hard to recover from addiction to medications by yourself, but there is help available. Knowing the signs of prescription, and non-prescription drug abuse, also called Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a first step to recovery for yourself or someone you love.

Some common signs of drug dependence:

  • Changes in daily habits
  • Loss of appetite
  • Change in personality
  • Withdrawing from family/friends
  • Forgetfulness
  • Anxiety or irritability
  • Changes in appearance
  • Missing money/valuables
